Dragonfly
If one departs at their own hand,
a perception of that one is that nothing will change—that it won’t matter.
But that is an ill-perception, is it not?
And a selfish one at that.
I mean, I suppose if one was completely alone,
with no kin nor friends,
then perhaps nothing would change in the day to day should they depart.
Nonetheless—
Dragonfly.
A shift in the air.
A shift in direction.
When departure is natural—
still, Dragonfly…
but softer perhaps,
as departure was not at the hand of self.
The hurt felt by others—
still present at a natural departure—
but theoretically not the same
as a sudden departure by the hand of self or of tragedy.
A sudden shift in the wind and in direction,
a shift that is of elegance
or one of sharp abruptness…
Dragonfly.
Effect
You touch me — Dragonfly
I touch you — Dragonfly
I read your words — Dragonfly
You read mine — Dragonfly
I look at you — Dragonfly
You look at me — Dragonfly
I let go of you, you let go of me — Dragonfly
We reconnect again — Dragonfly
I will always welcome a Dragonfly,
as they seem to be the most agile and intuitive.
We are an interesting lot—
we creatures of thought and emotion.
Going about infusing devotion,
confusing our journey,
yet we don’t even know our destination
or what journey we are even on.
We may think we know.
But do we?
There are plenty of stories that infer a knowing,
but no one has come back to tell us
the final destination
or the soul purpose of our journey.
Who knows what’s right for you,
what’s right for me?
We don’t even know this for ourselves at times.
All we can do is do our best.
There are plenty of others of thought and emotion
who won’t hesitate to let you know
they think they know
how you should be,
what you should be doing,
and how to do it.
Dragonfly…
Butterflies are graceful and full of beauty,
but a Dragonfly—in my book
(if I had a book, maybe one day I will)—
is far more beautiful,
more graceful,
and more agile
than a butterfly.
